JSL supports police initiative
Jajpur:7/March/2010

Santosh Kumar Upadhyay, IG Central Zone was happy to see his entire police force of the Jajpur district finally have a Reserve Police Training Ground (RPTG) of their own after creation of a Police district after 17 years!

Jajpur Police district was carved out of Cuttack in 1993 and till date there was no RPTG, which was very much a necessity for the forces.

Thanks to the initiatives of D S Kutey, Superintendent of Police, Jajpur, now the forces have developed the ground with the active support of JSL.

Rajdeep Mohanty, Resident Director JSL also graced the occasion along with other senior executives of Kalinga Nagar Industrial Complex Association (KNICA) Member Industries.

A K Swar, Senior Environmental Engineer, Orissa State Pollution Control Board, Bhubaneswar (OSPCB) also attended the ceremony.

Till March 2009, nine acres of low lying, water logged and flood prone land within the Reserve Police Camp at Panikoili remained as waste land without any utility.

Mr. Kutey sought to develop this waste land by reclaiming with fly ash from captive thermal power plant of JSL, Danagadi, Jajpur, in an environmental friendly manner.

Member Secretary and Dr. Swar from OSPCB readily approved to exemplify and promote the proven ‘fly ash utilization program in waste land development’ in Orissa, for its productive utility.

Mr. Shivarama M S, GM, Environment, JSL, closely and consistently monitored and implemented the reclamation program.

OSPCB officials and the Centre for Fly Ash & Research Management (C-FARM), New Delhi provided the necessary guidance.

90,000 tons of fly ash, 30,000 tons of soil and 600 cum of stone pitching work was utilized to shape up the 9 acres of land as ‘training ground”.

It has been further beautified by retaining a natural pond inside, encircled with raised bund.

520 numbers of 3 years old grown up trees and 120 shrubs and 500 square meter of grass has been developed over 2.5 acres.

The entire project costed about Rs. 2 crore to JSL.

Mr.Mohanty, Resident Director, JSL added that two such waste lands have already developed in the vicinity.

And presently, 72 acres of abandoned mine waste land is also being developed in Jajpur Road by utilizing fly ash as education institutional area.
