Bhubaneswar:7/March/2010
For the first time in the history of Odisha Administration, now the mining mafias will be dealt most harshly by invoking National Security Act (NSA) against them.
Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik seems in no mood to tolerate these elements and has issued marching orders.
Chief Secretary Tarun Kanti Mishra has recently reviewed the action taken against the illegal mining and has asked DGP to take sternest action accordingly.
DGP Man Mohan Praharaj is in a mood to change the entire police lot in Keonjhar to provide more strength to the newly appointed SP Ashish Kumar Singh.
Mr.Singh, SP of Keonjhar has also taken up the challenge thrown by mining mafias very seriously, said he.
With Debjani Chakrabarti at the helm of District Administration of Keonjhar, mining mafias will have more troubled times, said a senior officer.
So NSA will be clamped on the arrested mafias dealing with theft and smuggling of minerals, revealed an insider.
To start with District Administration of Keonjhar have started NSA proceedings against few mafias.
Recently Keonjhar Police has arrested few mining mafias and more arrests are in offing.
All of them will be booked in NSA, revealed the source.
In the meantime to District Administration of Keonjhar has taken unprecedented action by clamping order under section 144 of CrPC imposing ban on entry of unauthorised persons into Banspani Railway sidings.
Never in the history, it has been done to tackle the crisis, admits another officer.
Recently Deputy Director of Mines, Joda filed an FIR at Joda Police Station regarding despatch of 62 rake load of iron ore by Indian Railways.
These materials are believed to be unauthorizedly procured and Railway authorities present at the local station expressed their inability to divulge information with the consignee and consigner of the iron ore despatched.
DDM, Joda and SP, Keonjhar requested for further investigation and stoppage of all loading in railway siding until the entire stack lying in the siding was verified.
Now orders under section 144 Cr.PC has been clamped in apprehension of breach of peace, public tranquillity and possibility of riot, since vested interests have been adversely affected.
Detailed inquiry is going on and no despatch is allowed from the railway siding, said an officer.
