Naveen reigns supreme
Bhubaneswar:5/March/2010

Naveen Patnaik completed 10 years of unchallenged reign over Odisha on today.

BJD Supremo took over as the Chief Minister on 5 March, 2000 as a complete green horn on his legendary fathers’ birth day.

Ever since that fateful day Mr.Patnaik has grown from strength to strength, trouncing his enemies and critics all the way.

Mr.Patnaik has displayed a unique survival instinct to triumph in every crisis.

His squeaky clean image and unblemished popularity continue among the masses even after a decade in dirty politics.

Even outside the state and country his image as ‘Mr.Clean’ continues as on today.

Mr.Patnaik took over reins of Odisha in the aftermath of Super Cyclone and near financial bankruptcy.

During those days State Government used to live on overdraft for 355 days in a year.

Entire revenue was sufficient for a day’s requirement of the State Government.

Efficient handling of Finance and generating resources through the system has brought the exchequer to pink.

Most importantly high growth environment in the country moved the station faster fiscal recovery path.

Industrial investment has grown remarkably during these years and both national and international big wigs have lined up to establish mega Greenfield projects in the state.

While Naveen has admirers galore, the critics are also unsparing on the flip side.

Despite high growth rate, poverty ratio has increased in a big way, feel financial experts.

Starvation deaths are repeated frequently especially in far flung KBK and other tribal zones.

Maoist Menace, which was confined to a few blocks in 2 districts has expanded to 22 districts and 13 districts are experiencing Left Wing Extremists violence.

Farmers’ suicide is a constant refrain.

Mega projects like POSCO, ArecelorMittal, Tata Steel, Vedanta and ESSAR are facing tough time due to local resistance.

Bureaucracy has a reputation for lack of effectiveness and direction.

Alleged mega mining scam seems to have dented Government’s image in public eye.

Despite all this the score card is clearly positive in Naveen’s favour, say Political Pundits.

To his good fortune there is no semblance of a strong opposition in the state, feel they.

While BJP is nursing its reverse wounds, Congress seems to have given up.

On lighter vein a former Chief Minister said Naveen lacks charisma like his father, but his strong ‘Kundali’ made him vastly surpass Biju Babu’s success.

The best tribute to Biju Patnaik is converting Hinjili town to Biju Nagar. People call this town as Hinjili/ Hinjilicut/Katu/Hinjilikatu. Going by public sentiments the name of this Town must be changed as Biju Nagar as we will be Proud to see our town as like Bhanjanagar or Kabisurya Nagar. Hope our CM would listen to the public sentiments & act.
