Vedanta asked for K'handi Plan

Naveen Patnaik, asked the Boss of the Vedanta Resources Plc, to formulate the Comprehensive Plan for Kalahandi’s overall development. 

Chief Minister during nearly hour long meeting with Anil Agarwal pointed out that the tribal zone where Vedanta Aluminum Limited (VAL) is setting up its Greenfield project needs care of the Aluminum Major. 

Mr. Agarwal in response immediately agreed to take up the assignment. 

Vedanta Resource Plc Boss informed the Chief Minister that keeping the request of State Government, Vedanta would build a hostel for newly established Government Engineering College at Bhawanipatna to accommodate its students. 

Mr.Agarwal said till date Vedanta Group has already invested Rs.39,000 crore in Odisha. 

Vedanta will invest more in the state as it is providing opportunity for investment, said the aggressive investor. 

Chief Minister seemed happy over the positive approach of Mr.Agarwal, who said that the Group is on expansion mode and will not stop till their plans are fulfilled. 

While Chief Minister was aided by Bijay Kumar Patnaik, Principal Secretary to CM, Ashok Dalwai, Secretary Steel & Mines, Pradeep Jena, Secretary Energy and other officials. 

Vedanta Chief was assisted by Mukesh Kumar, Chief Operating Officer, VAL, Ajit K Samal, Senior Vice President Commercial & Projects and few other senior officials of the company. 

Odisha’s Power sector gets a relief as the first Unit of 2400 Independent Power Plant (IPP) at Jharsuguda would be commissioned in coming Summer’, he said to the media after meeting the Chief Minister. 

This will add 600 MW to the state’s power production capacity and can help the State Government in facing the current power crisis. 

Mr. Agarwal revealed that construction work of world class Vedanta University near Puri has already started. 

At the first stage, the University will have a 1000 bed super specialty hospital and Medical College, also academic building. 

Vedanta Boss also informed the meeting that Lanjigarh refinery is fully operational by sourcing bauxite from other states, incurring a huge opportunity loss for both states as well as company. 

State Government has assured to look into the issue seriously and try to work out for an immediate solution. 

Construction activities for a specialized burn and trauma care centre at Bhubaneswar would begin very soon. 

The 100-bed capacity advanced burn and trauma care centre will cater the high demand of the accident and trauma patients of the state as currently there is no such medical facilities are available. 
The Company has already appointed HOSMAC, an internationally reputed hospital designing and construction company for the primary evaluation and designing. 

Mr. Agarwal had committed the same during his last visit to Bhubaneswar in August 2009. 

This will be an additional hospital project that Vedanta has taken up, apart from the medical college and research center at Puri and a general Hospital at Jharsuguda. 

Necessary study and project report for development of a Metal Park at Jharsuguda has been completed. 

The metal park will have about 100 medium and small scale industries, creating employment opportunity for 15000 people. 

“It will promote employment opportunities, besides encouraging entrepreneurship,” Mr. Agarwal said. Vedanta will also provide hot metals, electricity and technical expertise as well as R&D support.
